Jessie Oltman Q&A

Q: How did you learn about the Axiom internship program?

A: I learned of the internship at Axiom through my family’s financial advisor, Michelle Konkle. Michelle knew I was graduating soon from Indiana University Southeast with a major in finance and a minor in economics. She was also aware I was looking for a summer finance internship. When I was offered the position, I was beyond excited for the opportunity to try something new!

Q:  What are you most looking forward to learning?

A:  I look forward to taking the skills and knowledge I’ve been developing in the classroom over the past two years and applying them to real workplace situations and seeing how it all comes together to help people reach their financial goals and attain financial freedom.

Q:  Where do you see your career heading?

A:  I am hoping this internship can help me figure out exactly what I want to do with my career, or at least give me a better understanding of what it is that I love to do. I may finish out the internship and decide that financial consulting is my passion, or I may realize this is not the field for me. Either way, I see this experience as a win. I’ve always been interested in the legal side of finance and economics as well as the wealth management side, so I’m still very open to different career paths and opportunities.

Q:  Do you have a business role model?

A:  Maybe not so much a well-known business role model, but my parents are my work role models. They’re both in business and have worked incredibly hard and are the reason I’m the woman I am today. I strive every day to work as hard as they do and be as dedicated as they are to their work and family.

Q:  What do you do for fun?

A:  I love video games and cinematography. I am also a huge theater nerd! I love to watch musicals and sing, or at least pretend I can sing—in the car and in the shower. I enjoy relaxing with my friends after work and meeting new people and trying new foods. I love shopping and attending festivals and fairs. I love watching true crime documentaries with my mom and sister and pretending to understand while watching sports with my dad and brother.

Q:  What does the immediate future hold for you?

A: I plan on attending Indiana University to get my MBA or my masters in finance. I haven’t quite decided which one I want yet.

Q: Can you reveal a fun fact about you?

A: I have two dogs and a pet snake. I constantly worry who is going to eat who first! Just kidding—they all get along very well.
