The Other Side of Sarah Black

Main Responsibilities
“My main responsibility is doing meeting preparation for the advisors, which includes reviewing and updating clients’ financial plans. I also help with accounts payable and billing on advisory accounts, and I’m starting to research funds that we use in our models.”

Why You Joined the Axiom Team
“I was really excited to take on this opportunity because I wanted to be an important factor in the client experience without necessarily being in front of the client. I love developing that role here, as kind of the behind-the-scenes analytics person.”

Biggest Work Success So Far
“I would say my Certified Financial Planner designation has been my biggest career success to date.”

Business Leader You View as a Role Model
“That would be my dad. His story is why I became interested in Vaughan’s focus on family businesses. My grandfather started a small mom and pop Body Shop. When my dad took it over, he turned it into a very successful business. And when he sold it, he made sure he took care of his employees with things like health insurance and a 401k. That’s why I feel that tie when Vaughan talks about his goals with family businesses. I can see in my personal life how that played out. Sometimes I think, ‘What if my grandpa, my dad and my brother would have sat down and had some of those conversations that he has with clients? How would that have looked?’”

Most Rewarding Part of Work
“It’s when I can point something out to one of the advisors that they may not have seen, something that could mean added value to the client. It’s rewarding to make those sorts of contributions.”

Three Words to Describe You Personally
“Kind. Considerate. Good Listener.”

Fun Fact
“It was random that I ended up working in this field. I went to Purdue to become a pharmacist but hated it after the first semester. So I took a class that evaluated your strengths and interests, and it pointed me to financial planning.”
