AXIOM NEWS

Annual Client Appreciation Donation

Each year Axiom makes a commitment to give back to the community with a donation to a charity, a cause or victims of a catastrophe.

This year our donation feels very personal, as it’s tied to a dear member of the Axiom family. Our CEO, Vaughan Scott and his wife, Jill, have been supporting their eldest son, Evan, as he deals with a recent cancer diagnosis.

Evan’s first symptom, soreness in his leg, was thought to be tied to the 20-year-old’s very active lifestyle, which includes playing a variety of sports.

When the pain persisted, the Scotts pursued every medical avenue available, finally ending up at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Evan was eventually diagnosed with aggressive diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. “Thankfully, and most importantly, this is now a curable cancer, and this type of lymphoma responds well to chemotherapy and radiation,” says Jill.

Evan is now showing tremendous strength, courage and optimism as he battles the cancer. Through it all, he’s also maintaining his great sense of humor. At one point, he even gave a name to his IV pole that he’d been continuously carrying around. Evan named the pole Walter, after a character in one of his favorite TV shows, Breaking Bad.

In support of Evan and his entire family, Axiom has chosen to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this year. If you or someone you know would also like to make a contribution, you can go here for more information.

The Scotts are so grateful for those of you who have reached out. They’re also thinking of their many friends and family members who have faced or are currently facing a battle with cancer, particularly breast cancer. They suggest that anyone wishing to make a donation to help that cause can go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The road to a cure for all cancers is paved with so many hopeful and generous people.

In the meantime, all of us here at Axiom are keeping the Scotts in our thoughts and looking forward to Evan’s cancer-free future. If you’re interested in following Evan’s progress on the CaringBridge website, you can email [email protected] for information
on how to do that.

The Sights of Singapore

Last month we told you about the nine-day trip Vaughan took with his graduate students from the University of Louisville College of Business. After visiting Vietnam, the group headed to Singapore, a tropical island in Southeast Asia, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is the only place in the world that is a city, a capital and a country. Click here to read a Q&A with Vaughan about this fascinating adventure.
