Remembering D-Day
June 6 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the day that allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare. Codenamed Operation ‘Overlord’, the landings on five beaches in Normandy marked the start of a long and costly campaign to liberate north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.
D-Day was made possible because of Allied efforts across all fronts, both before and after June 1944. By the time of the invasion, over two million troops from 12 countries were in Britain preparing for the event.
On D-Day, Allied forces consisted primarily of American, British and Canadian troops but also included Australian, Belgian, Czech, Dutch, French, Greek, New Zealand, Norwegian, Rhodesian and Polish naval, air or ground support.
It was a treacherous mission that led to the deaths of 4,414 Allied troops including 2,501 Americans. ‘Overlord’ did not bring an end to the war in Europe, but it did begin the process through which victory was eventually achieved.

Teaching Financial Literacy
It’s now an Indiana state law that all high school students will need to pass a financial literacy course in order to graduate. The requirement will start with the class of 2028. Courses will cover topics like filing taxes, managing debt and saving for retirement. At Axiom, we’re helping with this effort, by going out in the community and talking to students about managing their personal finances. CEO Vaughan Scott was recently at Providence High School to speak to a class taught by a friend of ours, Larry Denison (see photo). And CFO Leah Driver returned again this year to New Washington High School for its “Adulting Day” event. Leah taught the students about how to file income taxes—a lesson that will certainly benefit them throughout their lives.
Axiom Does Derby
Despite the scattered showers, an enthusiastic crowd was on hand for the 150th running of the Kentucky Oaks. The race is traditionally held on the Friday before Derby. In keeping with tradition, many attendees wore pink or teal to show support for breast and ovarian cancer research. Later in the afternoon, 150 breast cancer survivors walked the track in the annual Survivor’s Day Parade. Among the spectators decked out in pink were Axiom President Mike Grau and his wife, Kimberly.
Congrats to the Grad!
Congratulations to Vaughan and Jill Scott’s youngest son, Charlie, who graduated from Providence High School with an Indiana Academic Honors diploma and as a member of the National Honor Society. Charlie is also an exceptional athlete, earning 11 varsity letters in four different sports. Despite his many successes, Charlie remained most proud of the accomplishments of his teammates and opponents.
Charlie will be attending Indiana University to study business in the fall, with his older brother Evan (who is thriving after winning his battle over cancer last year). Pictured with Charlie and Evan are Vaughan, Jill, daughter Jacqueline and her fiancé Shawn Fitzpatrick, all of whom are also IU graduates.

APride Festival & Parade
The Kentuckiana celebration is one of the largest LGBTQ+ events in Kentucky. An estimated 20,000 people will turn out to celebrate the LGBTQ+ Community with a parade, vendor marketplace, food booth and entertainment. The parade, which kicks off the festivities, starts at noon Saturday, June 15 at the intersection of Campbell St. and Market St. It continues through the Nulu area and ends at the Big Four Lawn, where the festival takes place until 10:00 p.m.
