VETERANS DAY IN KENTUCKIANA

On Tuesday, November 11, we honor all veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is always observed on this day because that is the date of the armistice that ended World War I.

In Louisville, Churchill Downs will hold a Military Appreciation Day, where active-duty military or retired veterans receive free admission to the track with their Military ID. There will also be a special lunch on Millionaire’s Row. That requires a separate ticket at the discount rate of $40. More information can be found at:
https://www.churchilldowns.com/visit/featured-events/veterans-day-military-appreciation-day/

Here are some of the many ways to honor veterans in our community:

  • Thank a veteran personally. Take the time to thank a veteran you know for their service and sacrifice.
  • Support veteran organizations. Donate to or volunteer with charities that help veterans, such as VA hospitals or service organizations.
  • Fly the U.S. flag. Display the American flag to show your patriotism and honor veterans.
  • Visit a memorial or cemetery. Pay your respects at a local veterans memorial or cemetery and reflect on the sacrifices made by service members.
  • Help a veteran-owned business. Support the business ventures of former service members in your community.
  • Offer assistance. Small gestures can make a big difference. Ask a veteran if they need help with chores or errands.

Vaughan is pictured here with Ralf Renken, who consults in AI and cloud-computing strategies throughout Europe.
