WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
On October 10th, we celebrate World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme, It Is Time to PrioritizeMental Health in the Workplace, was chosen by a global vote that was open to the public.
According to the World Health Organization, the purpose of the day is “to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.” WHO is uniting with its partners to highlight the vital connection between mental health and work. Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health.
A supportive work environment fosters mental health, providing purpose and stability, while a poor work environment can not only harm mental well-being, but also reduce both job satisfaction and productivity.

Axiom Gives Back
CEO Vaughan Scott is working with Slate Run Elementary school to provide financial empowerment courses to its teaching staff. The lessons are part of a grant awarded to the school. The first session was titled Building a Solid Financial Future – Budgeting & Beyond. Assisting Vaughan in the presentation was an expert in psychology and its impact on personal finance. The discussion centered on the notion that people’s opportunities to improve their financial futures have always been tied to land, capital and/or labor. Unique insights and ideas on how to leverage each of these were shared and discussed among the group.
Family Business Center Summit
Axiom was the title sponsor for the Family Business Summit at University of Louisville in September. The panel featured the family behind Donatos Pizza, a 60-year-old restaurant company founded by James Grote. His daughter, Jane Grote, Executive Chairwoman and Chief Purpose Officer, led the discussion with two of the next generation family members. Our CEO Vaughan Scott, who serves as Director of the Graduate Certificate in Family Business Management & Advising at U of L, facilitated the panel discussion. The event was also attended by Axiom President Mike Grau and Financial Advisor Michelle Konkle.
New Albany’s annual Harvest Homecoming begins with Opening Ceremonies and a parade on Saturday, October 5. This will be followed by a week full of fun with booth days, delicious food and homemade crafts. You can also go up in a hot air balloon, and enjoy the rides, the kid’s stage and the car show. This year’s theme, “Autumn Sock Hop,” will be a fun step back in time.

ThriftCon
ThriftCon is a two-day celebration of vintage clothing and collectibles plucked straight out the ’70s through to the 2000s. Some 140 clothing and collectible vendors exhibit their wide-ranging wares. Every booth is different, based on the vendor’s unique style and interests. Many pieces are highly collectible, which is reflected in the sticker price. However, there are countless pieces that are incredibly affordable, some even starting at $1. According to surveys, most of the items purchased generally range from $10-$50. Garvin Gate Blues Festival
This is a free arts and music festival featuring both national and local performers. A celebration of both the blues and the arts, the festival attracts a multiracial, intergenerational audience. In addition to continuous live entertainment from some of the best blues bands, the festival has an array of food and drink vendors. Event takes place October 12 at Louisville’s Central Park. Louisville Book Festival
The 2024 Louisville Book Festival will be held in downtown Louisville on October 18, 19 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Kentucky International Convention Center. The Festival is a non-profit organization founded in 2018 to celebrate and promote the love and benefits of reading, writing and literacy. Organizers believe that “literacy is a fundamental human right and that there is power and purpose in bringing books to life every day of the year.” Find details here.
