BE PREPARED!
National Preparedness Month is observed in September to remind Americans to prepare for emergencies and disasters in their homes, businesses and communities.
The roots of this campaign can be traced to the aftermath of September 11, 2001. At that time, FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, recognized the critical need for increased emergency preparedness and joined forces with various partners to establish this annual campaign in 2004.
When we consider emergency preparedness, we often think of weather-related emergencies like hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding, but other emergencies can result from contamination, leaks and spills.
Two great websites where you can learn the best way to prepare are this one from the EPA and Ready.gov from the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security.
We encourage you to check these out for helpful information on preparation, how to set up an emergency contact system, how to receive critical alerts and what to do after an emergency hits. It’s never too late!
